Hope's story
We named her Hope when she came into our care. It was because we had hope, that given the proper care she could recover from her horrible condition. Look what her body did. Never ever give up hope!
Discovering Hope at a northern Alberta animal rescue has had a profound effect on us in many ways and we are so very grateful for all that those wonderful people did for Hope. Unfortunately, Hope’s foal had died before authorities were able to seize the group. Others from her pasture had also passed, starved to death.
Hopes arrival to what is now known as Helping Horses Heal Rehab and Sanctuary, started a group of like-minded individuals determined to help these horses in need.
When we see something horrible that’s been done to an animal many of us want to rise up and defend them, whether it be by stepping up and stopping the act or by making ourselves a part of new beginnings, love and compassion swells within us and protection mode kicks in.
Our protection mode is extremely strong and when we see something hurt and in need of help our group is all in and HHH will go the fullest lengths to see they’re safe.
Hopes rehabilitation started the day she arrived, hoof care, her souls were rotted through, massive infection. She was still very thin, her coat was dull and like straw, a daily feed supplement program was started.
Hope did not trust people, she didn’t want to be around people, not even to eat. So sad to see such a broken animal.
Words from Ron, our manager and farrier
“I took a knee in Hope’s pen today and instead of moving away, she slowly came and stood near me, lowering her head to my level. It was a rewarding moment in life to see that she’s realized she’s safe.
I softy talked to her about her new life, reassuring her that she’ll never see another hungry day as long as I live, and I could see her eye soften and then she let herself release a huge wave of negative energy. It was something very pleasing to see.”
“Hope knows she’s home.”
